The paradigm of the American family is changing once again. Elders are preferring to age in place, children are returning home, many are struggling to make ends meet, and everyone is looking to reduce their carbon footprint. This new American ideology is beginning to create the new norm - to still be a house of 4 - even after the child's time in university.

This proposal seeks to answer the questions of logistics that come with this paradigm shift. A central light scoop, doubling as vertical circulation core, anchors and organizes the house, creating a buffer between private (sleeping) spaces and public (living) spaces. The children's realm is placed at the second level, allowing it to be closed off as kids eventually move on and parents remain to age in place on a single level.
