Dichotomy explores the notion of a dual world structure - a world of support, nurturing and emotion versus a world of industrial revolution, man made assemblies and sharp crisp lines. The schism that creates these two opposing worlds becomes evident in the chair, creating a small storage niche between the 'pans.' The chair features a series of 3 panels, each constructed of two opposing pans representing the natural and modern, respectively. The front pans take shape from the laminated bent plywood whereas the back pans utilize crisp lines created from the machine made/ milled wood veneer over birch plywood substrate. Extreme consideration and research of six famous modern chairs (including the Eames Lounge, Barcelona Chair, Corona Chair, Shell Chair, and others) was completed to aid in the design of the frame and its' respective alignment angles and dimensions. The frame is a hollow section steel tube, cut, bent, and welded to create no pressure point ergonomics - perfect for lounging.
